What You Need
A laptop or PC with Windows 7 operating system
A Carsoft 6.5.06 software CD or a downloaded RAR file
A Carsoft interface (either BMW or Mercedes-Benz)
A USB-Serial adapter (such as Prolific PL2303)
A virtual COM port driver (such as com0com)
A BMW or Mercedes-Benz vehicle with an OBD-II port
Step 1: Install Carsoft 6.5.06 Software
If you have a Carsoft 6.5.06 software CD, insert it into your CD-ROM drive and follow the instructions on the screen. If you have a downloaded RAR file, extract it to a folder on your hard drive and run the setup.exe file. You may need to run the setup file as administrator by right-clicking on it and choosing Run as administrator. Follow the instructions on the screen and choose the language, destination folder, and interface type (BMW or Mercedes-Benz). When the installation is complete, you will see a shortcut icon on your desktop labeled BMW V6.5 WINDOWS or MB V7.4 WINDOWS. Do not run the software yet.
Step 2: Install USB-Serial Adapter Driver
If you have a USB-Serial adapter, plug it into your laptop or PC and wait for Windows to detect it. You may need to install a driver for your USB-Serial adapter depending on the model and manufacturer. For example, if you have a Prolific PL2303 adapter, you can download the driver from here. Follow the instructions on the screen and choose the appropriate COM port number for your adapter (such as COM3 or COM4). You can check the COM port number by going to Device Manager and expanding the Ports (COM & LPT) section.
Step 3: Install Virtual COM Port Driver
If you have a virtual COM port driver, download it from here and run the setup file. You may need to run the setup file as administrator by right-clicking on it and choosing Run as administrator. Follow the instructions on the screen and choose the installation options. You will see two virtual COM ports created by default (such as CNCA0 and CNCB0). You can change the names and numbers of these ports by running the com0com command line tool from the Start menu.
Step 4: Connect Carsoft Interface to USB-Serial Adapter
If you have a Carsoft interface, connect it to your USB-Serial adapter using a serial cable. Make sure that the switch on the interface is set to either BMW or Mercedes-Benz depending on your vehicle type.
Step 5: Connect Virtual COM Ports
If you have installed com0com, run the com0com command line tool from the Start menu and enter the following command:
change CNCA0 PortName=COM1
This will change the name of one of the virtual COM ports to COM1, which is the default port used by Carsoft software. You can also change CNCB0 to another port number if you want.
Next, enter the following command:
change CNCA0 EmuBR=yes EmuOverrun=yes Emu c481cea774
